How is my phone insurance program changing?

Effective July 1, 2019, Metro by T-Mobile is replacing your current phone insurance program with a new program provided by Assurant®.

Benefits: You’ll still have insurance benefits covering loss, theft, accidental damage (including liquid damage), and mechanical or electrical breakdown after the manufacturer’s warranty expires.

Claims: You’ll start with a clean claim history with access to a two-claim limit within a rolling 12-month period, based on the date of the first repair or replacement. And beginning July 1, 2019, you’ll be able to quickly and easily file claims here.

In addition, at no additional charge, your current Lookout Mobile Security software will change to McAfee® Security for Metro by T-Mobile with ID Theft Protection.

Effective July 1, 2019, your McAfee® protection will include:

  • Security against online threats, viruses, data loss and risky apps
  • Access to register up to 10 devices with one account, including smartphones, tablets, PCs and Macs
  • Ability to track a lost device, sound an alarm and lock and wipe data remotely 
  • ID protection to detect and resolve identify theft and help protect you from fraud
  • Password management with the True Key app

On or after July 1, 2019, download the McAfee® Security for Metro® app to install and register your new service.

I’m currently enrolled in PHP. How do I file a claim before the program changes take effect?

How can I learn more about my new phone insurance program?

If you haven’t already, you will be receiving a notification about the changes. Please read it carefully and all the documents attached to it.

Why did I get a text message and notification?

Metro® by T-Mobile wanted to give you a heads up that there are some changes coming to the Premium Handset Protection® (PHP) program you’re enrolled in. The notification you received outlines the changes to your plan and includes your new coverage documents which provide you with the full coverage details. There is no action required from you to continue enjoying the same peace of mind that you do today.

What if I don’t want my coverage to change?

Even though the providers for the new Premium Handset Protection (PHP) program are changing, we are ensuring that you will keep great coverage at the same rates starting July 1, 2019. However, this your coverage is optional. If you decide you don’t want device coverage, call 1-888-8metro8.

NY residents with insurance only coverage: Your monthly cost will change to $3 per device — that’s $1 less than what you currently pay.

Will my deductible prices be changing?
No, deductibles remain the same.

When will the change take place?
Program changes will be effective on July 1, 2019.

How do I make a claim after the program changes take effect? Will the process change?
Good news! Starting July 1, 2019, this claims site will be the easiest way to file a claim. You may also call Assurant at 1-888-477-3633 and a Care Specialist will help you through the process.
